Magna Carta (1 ene 1215 año – 1 ene 1216 año)

Descripción:

The Magna Carta or 'Great Charter' was a charter of rights agreed to by the unpopular King John of England in an attempt to appease rebel barons that were rising against him due to extremely high taxes as well as a pattern of unjust imprisonment and prosecution.

The Magna Carta contributed to classical liberalism by being the first document of its kind to establish the rule of law where all people are subject to the law including King John himself. Additionally, the Magna Carta supported aspects of individual rights and freedoms by establishing the rights of the individual, which included the promise of fair trials for those accused of a crime. Although the Magna Carta only lasted a very short time before being annulled by the Papacy, centuries later many British lawyers and intellectuals rediscovered it and forced many of its principles back into law in Britain thus allowing it to live on forever.
