King of Macedon when it got a lot more powerful (Thebes was the powerful bully at the time). Hostage to military commander of Thebes, but treated very well and taught warfare by him. Watched Thebes conquer Sparta. Became a military genius.
Took over all of Greece and said he had done it so they could take down Persia. Assassinated due to a lover's spat as he was about to do so.
Moral of the story: love is messy and will ruin your plans for world domination
