Mexican-American War (1 mayo 1846 año – 1 sept 1847 año)

President Polk sent Zachary Taylor and 2,000 troops to occupy the land between the Nueces River and the Rio Grande. Polk knew that this would create strife with the Mexicans. In May 1846, the message was delivered to the president that American blood had been shed. This began war. The war continued until 1847, when Americans captured the Mexican capital. This war was the first big domino to fall to create strife between the North and the South. When Mexican land was gained from the war it started a discussion whether the states would be free states, or slave states. Many bills and laws were passed concerning the land, they were the cause for the Civil War. This problem divided the nation and caused the North and South to not trust each other.
