(rebirth in french) It was period following the Middle AGes and is characterized by nan interest in Classical Greco-Roman culture. This began a series of social, political, and intellectual transformations, such as humanism which vauled the potential of humans rather than just religious teachings. The effect of humanism was to help people be free from rel;igious institutions to encourage criticism and to encourage people to think and learn outside of religious institutions and to learn outside of relgiious institutions which led to the Protestant Reformation.
