Invasion of Poland (Sept 1, 1939) When Germany invaded Poland it triggered WWII. This was also known as "Case White' and marked the beginning of the WWII. Over 3 million Polish Jews were killed during the war.
Germany Takes Wetern Europe (May 10, 1940) Gemany planned attack called "Blitzkrieg' or 'lightning war' to conquer Western Europe including Belgium, the Netherlans, Luxembourg and France. This was a key war event in WWII for it showed Germany's effective strategies.
Tripartite Pact (Sept 27, 1940) A mutual defense treaty signed by Berlin by Germany, Italy, and Japan showing the military alliance during WWII. It was used to deter threats specifically the US from interfering in Japan's affairs.
Operation Barbarossa (June 22, 1941) This was the codename used for Nazi Germany attacking the Soviet Union. They wanted to establish "living space" in Eastern Europe. Due to harsh winters in the Soviet Union, the Germany's failed.
Attack on Pearl Harbor (Dec 7, 1941) Japan attacked the US Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. This is what lead US to enter WWII. This attack caused relations between the US and Japan to worsen for decades.
D-Day (June 6, 1944) This was also known as the Normandy landings. It refers tothe Allied invation of France. It marked the start of the liberation of Western Europe. It was a turning point of the war, paving the way for liberation of Western Europe and defeating Nazi Germany
V-E Day (May 8, 1945) Victory in Europe Day is celebrating the acceptance by the Allies of WWII and Germany surrender to the armed forces. This day is sometimes called Victory Over Fascism Day, Liberation Day or Victory Day. The UK abbreviated this day to VE Day a term used before September 1944.
V-J Day (Sept 2, 1945) This was the end of WWII when Japan surrendered. The formal surrender occurred on the USS Missouri in Tokoyo Bay. It was celebrated around the world with people singing, dancing and cheering.

The Blitz(Sept 7, 1940-May 11, 1941) This was aGerman bombing campain against Britain with London being primary target. The campaign was a series of aerial bombings on British towns and cities carried out by the German Air Force. The Blitz was entirly counterproductive to the main purpose of Germany's air offensive.
The Battle of Britain (July 10, 1940-Oct 31, 1940) The Battle of Britain was an important battle during WWII because the Germans wanted to invade Great Britain. To be able to invade Great Britain they had to destroy the Royal Air Force. The Battle of Britain was when the Germans bombed Great Britain trying to destroy the air force to prepare for the invasion.
Battle of Stalingrad (Jul 22, 1942-Feb 2, 1943) Stalingrad was located in Southwest Russia on the Volga River. The battle started when German air force bombed the Volga River and cityof Stalingrad. Weak from lack of food and from freezing cold witer the Germans surrendered.
Battle of Midway(June 4-7, 1942) Midway is an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean half way between Asia and North America. The Japanese planned a sneak attack on the US hoping to trap US aircraft carriers to destroy them. This battle was a turning point in the war and first major vicotry for the Allies in Pacific.
Battle of the Bulge (Dec 6, 1944 - Jan 25, 1945) When the Allies freed France and defeated Germany at Normady thought war was coming to end. Germany launched attack, but US fought back and kept Germany army from overrunning Europe. The battle took place in Ardennes Forest of Belgium.
Battle of Okinawa (April 1-June 22, 1945) After 82 days of fighting the US gained the victory. The battle took place on Okinawa island between the US and Empires of Japan. It was the last major amphibious asult of WWII.
Battle of Moscow (Oct 1941-Jan 1942) The German army aimed to capture Moscow as part of the plan to conquer the Soviet Union. The Battle was won by the Soviet Union. Failure to capture Moscow lead to the defeat of the Germans in the East.
Battle of Guadalcanal (Aug 7, 1942 - Feb 9, 1943) Guadalcanal is an Island in the South Pacific Ocean. The battle was between the US and Japan where the US took control of the island. The US marians invaded the island and took Japanese by surprise and eventually forced them to retreat and the US took control.
Potsdam Conference (Jul7 17-Aug 2, 1945) US Harry Truman, British Prime Minister WInston Churchill and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin meet in Postdam Germay. They were discussing post-war order and the future of Germany and war with Japan.
Dropping of the Atomic Bomb (Aug 6-9, 1945) US dropped atomic bombs on Japenanse cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This end WWII and was gthe first and only time nuclear weapons were used in armed conflict. It resulted in mass destruction adn casualties.
