French defeated by Viet Minh at Dien Bien Phu - This battle was the decisive battle for the Indochina war. The Viet Minh defeated French, where around 2000 French people were killed.
The Geneva accords - The Geneva accords were a series of documents that established a ceasefire in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
Ngo Dinh Diem is assassinated - Ngo Dinh Diem and his brother Ngo Dinh Nhu were assassinated. At the time, he was the president of South Vietnam.
Gulf of Tonkin incident - The Gulf of Tonkin incident included many international confronting events that resulted in the United States becoming more involved within the Vietnam War.
PM Menzies announces conscription - In response to geopolitical turmoil, Prime Minister Menzies reintroduced conscription to Australia. This meant that all 20-year-old males to register for a birthdate lottery.
First Australian infantry battalion dispatched to Vietnam - The first Australian infantry battalion was announced by the Prime Minister in 1965. It included an armoured personnel carrier (APL), a signals troop, and a logistic support company.

Moratorium marches in Melbourne and Sydney - The moratorium marches in Australian cities included a series of protests against Australia's involvement within the Vietnam war. The events were led by left-wing extremists.
Last of Australian troops withdrawn - The last members of the AATTV were withdrawn on the 18th of December 1972. The unit was then disbanded on the 16th of February 1973.
