- Indiana Jones locates a group of grave robbers inside a cave in Utah while on a Boy Scout expedition
- He steals the Cross of Coronado from them, believing their goals to be not worthy of such an important artifact
- The sherrif gives the Cross back to them, to which they are paid by a man in a Panama Hat
- The leader of the ruffians gives Indy his fedora as a parting gift- Indiana Jones sneaks aboard the Coronado
- He recovers the Cross of Coronado from the Panama hat man, who is killed in an explosion
- Indy survives with a life preserver and is saved by a passing boat- Donovan takes Indiana Jones and Marcus Brody to New York, where they board a flight to Venice- Indy and Marcus arrive in Venice, Italy and meet Dr. Elsa Schneider
- The three of them locate the entrance to the knight's tomb inside the Venice library
- Kazim and the Grail guardians attempt to kill Indy and Elsa by incinerating them inside the catacombs, then chase them across the canals
- Indy spares Kazim, who in exchange tells him where his father is being held captive

- Indy and his father arrive in Iskanderun and meet with Sallah
- The three of them catch up with the Nazis and rescue Marcus, in which Vogel and several other Nazis are killed
- The Temple of the Sun is rediscovered
- Donovan shoots Henry Sr.
- Donovan is killed by Elsa after drinking from a false Grail, and Indy rescues his father with the true holy Grail
- Indy, Marcus, Sallah and Henry Sr. begin their journey home- At Barnett College, Indy gives Marcus Brody the Cross of Coronado
- Indy runs from his students into the courtyard, where he is met by mysterious men
- He meets Walter Donovan, who informs Indy that his expedition to recover the Holy Grail was haulted by the dissapearence of Henry Jones Sr, Indiana Jones' father
- Marcus and Indy search Henry Sr.'s home for clues, where they discover that he sent his personal Grail Diary to Indy
