1944 Fascist troops left Albania: After WWII, Albania was occupied by Italian trrops. Enver Hoxha installed as new leader
1944 Enver Hoxha becomes the new Prime Minister: This also marks the beginning of the communist era.
1948 Albania breaks ties with Yugoslavia: Soviet Union starts bringing economic aid to Albania.
1961 Albania allies itself with China: This happened because they believed the leader of the Soviet Union at the time, Nikita Khrushchev, was deviating too much from strict Marxist methodology.
1955 Albania becomes founding member of Warsaw Pact: They joined because of how close they were to the Soviet Union at the time.
1968 Albania leaves the Warsaw Pact: They left because the Soviet Union invaded Czechoslovakia. This caused them to look heavily towards their ally China.
1978 China ends economic and military aid to Albania: China and Albania's relations were strained after China reconciled with the US.
1985 Enver Hoxha dies: This gave Albanian citizens hope that the communist regime would be over. He was replaced by Ramiz Alia.
1989 The revolts started in Shkodra: They wanted to demolish Joseph Stalin's statue. Communism rule in Eastern Europe collapsed and Ramiz Alia signals changes in economic system.
1990 My dad started his journey from Albania to the US
1991 My dad reached US soil: He finally reached the US after he landed in Providence, Rhode Inland. He then started a new life here in the US!
1990 My dad was put in a refugee camp: When he crossed from Albania to Yuogoslavia, the Yugoslavian forces took him into a refugee camp where he stayed for a couple months.
