Eventos
The Wakefield scheme - an urban and rural colonisation scheme with small and scattered pioneering bush clearing forming in a very difficult hilly district. There were mainly limiting factors such as lack of space and few economic opportunities with only a few settlers.
An earthquake raised land and drained away swamps providing farmland. Wool had become the mainstay of the district economy, especially in the Wairarapa. Trade, port facilities merchant houses and agricultural servicing developed.
Wellington became the capital of New Zealand
