1894: Queen Victoria opens Salford Quays
1960s: Big industrial ships could not go down the Manchester Canal Docks lose business as ships can't reach it Land is ruined and contaminated from the past People lose jobs and crime sets in
1982: The docks are closed Investment led for some improvements but a lot of the land was still wrecked and in ruin Many local people still had no jobs
1985: Salford Development Plan is started This could lead to massive investment in homes, education and health facilities More shops and businesses Cleaning of the canal and small, rural areas
1999: A new tram system is put in place Salford Quays is linked to the rest of the Manchester
2000: Lowry Building is built Lowry theatre is built with galleries, bars and cafes This was named after a local artist who was called J S Lowry External area provided for events and festivals
2000s: Resident development is built with flats and town houses at Grain Wharf High rise buildings are made on the pier space Retail and Leisure centres built and called the Lowry Outlet
2007: MediaCItyUK is opened and BBC move to the area Other media firms are planning to move there such as ITV 10,000 jobs are made and 1 billion is hoped to be added to the local economy by 2013
2025: Salford City Coucil aims to make Salford a massive modern, global city of the UK
July 2002: Imperial War Museum is opened
