Freedmen's Bureau
-was an agency created by Congress to help
millions of former black slaves and poor whites
in the South after the Civil War by providing
food, housing and medical aid, set up schools
and offered legal assistance.The Civil Rights Act of 1866
-was the first Federal Law to define citizenship
and say that all citizens are equally protected by
the law. This was mainly to protect the civil
rights of persons of African descent born in or
brought to the United States.Reconstruction Act of 1867
-Act that were supposed to
bring the southern
states back into the union.Battle of Gettysburg
-Advancing Confederates clashed with the
Union’s Army of the Potomac,
at the crossroads town of Gettysburg. The next

Ridge which eventually failed. Lee withdrew his
army toward Virginia on July 4.Confiscation act
