Sept. 1: The seeds for the Brassica
rapa were planted.
.Sept. 15: The stems of the plants have
developed color, but the color in
the stems have not fully developed
yet. The soil for most of the plants was
pretty dry or a damp-dry. Due to the
dry soil, all of the plants were wilted.
The average height of the plants
during this time was 4.3 cm.
.Sept. 22: Most of the soil in the
hexs which the plants were planted
in were dry. The plant in the second
hex had a bent stem. In the fourth hex,
the plant has developed a yellow
spotted leaf. In the sixth hex, the
plant had two dead/damaged leaves.
All the plants have formed buds.
The shortest plants were in the first
and fourth hex. The tallest plants
were in the third and sixth hex.
.Sept. 29: Some of the plants by this
point had developed flowers, while
others still retained their buds. More
plants developed spotted leaves. The
average height of the plants was 14.1
cm. At this point, the plants in hex six
and two were determined to be white.
While the plants in hex one, three, four,
and five had purple stems.
.Oct. 6: The buds that remained on the plants
were removed. By doing this the plants were
tricked into focusing to produce fruit rather than
flowers. The soil in the hexs contained more
moisture than before when it was dry. Fruit
stared to form as the plants were pollinated. All
the plants had spotted leaves. All the plants
were purple stemmed except the single plant in
the second hex that had a green stem.
.Oct. 13: The plant in the second hex with the
bent stem had its upper half completely dry and
dead. All the hexs were well watered. All of the
plants had spotted/bad leaves. A few leaves
were ripped of during the process of removing
buds that had sprouted.
.Oct. 20: All the plants remained with purple
stem except for the plant in the second hex
which had a green stem. The average height for
the plants at this point was 16 cm. The number
of bad leaves has increased on the plants. All of
the hexs had wet soil. Most of the fruit were
healthy but were not big enough or developed
enough to carry any seeds.
.Nov. 3: The seeds that the section had grown
and developed were germinated. The seeds
were removed from the pods. The whole
section's seeds were totaled. The seeds were
placed on the germination tray.The seeds were
separated and placed in trays with moisten
paper towels using DI water. The sections total
count of seed was 224. However, there were no
seed that were produced from the plants
mentioned to contribute to the section's seed
count.
.Nov. 17: The seeds have now been germinated.
The stems of the seeds were counted to
determine the number of green stemmed to
purple stemmed offsprings. Not all of the seed
had germinated. Only 36% of the seeds had
germinated. There were 54 purple stemmed
offsprings to 26 green stemmed offsprings.
With germination completed, it concludes the
Brassica rapa genetic experiment.
