1923 Natives Urban Areas Act The act made it so that local urban authorities had to separate the native residences from the white residences and also caused them to exercise more control over native immigration into these urban areas.
1913 The Natives Land Act The act stated that whites and natives could not buy land from one another.
1933 Parliamentary elections National Party victory but South African Party close contender. As a result of this the two first election coalition and later have a merger and form the United Party.
1938 Parliamentary elections Victory for the united party 111 votes out of 150. Because of the merger, purified National Party forms and only get 27 votes.
1948 Parliamentary elections Extremely Afrikaan nationalist purified National Party wins the election with 70 votes compared to the United Party which got a close 65 votes.
Apartheid 1948 is the year that the policy of "apartness" comes into action as enacted by the National Party. The law contained 4 different racial classifications: white, native (Bantu), coloured and Indian.
Athol Fugard's Master Harold and the boys The play is set in the year 1950 which is a mere 2 years after the full policy of the Apartheid comes into effect in 1948.
1953 Reservation of Separate Amenities Act This act called for the “reservation of public spaces and vehicles or portions thereof for the exclusive use of a persons of a particular race or class.” This was essentially an act of full public racial segregation.
1949 Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act Made it illegal for people of different races to intermarry
1950 The Race Classification Act Every citizen was accounted for and their race was classified
1950 Group Areas Act People of a specific race and class had a designated area they had to live in.
