October 13 1982 – Birth of Ian Thorpe
July 1998 - At the age of 15 Ian Thorpe was the youngest male gold medal list to win a 400 metre race in the Perth World Championships.
July 2000 – At the age of 17 Thorpe Had won three and gold medals and two silvers at the Sydney Olympic Games.
August 2003 – By now Thorpe had won the swimmer of the year for the past 3 consecutive years and was the only person to do so.
August 2004 - He won another two gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the 2004 summer Olympics in Athens making him the most successful Australian swimmer at the Olympics.
September 2004 – Ian Thorpe took a year off competitive swimming, planning to compete In 2008.
November 2006 - A serious injury caused by a gym incident had led Thorpe to announce his retirement.
