Perth World Championships.July 2000 – At the age of 17 Thorpe
Had won three and gold medals
and two silvers at the Sydney
Olympic Games.August 2003 – By now Thorpe
had won the swimmer of the
year for the past 3 consecutive
years and was the only person to do so.August 2004 - He won another two gold
medals, one silver and one
bronze at the 2004 summer
Olympics in Athens making him the
most successful Australian swimmer at the Olympics.September 2004 – Ian Thorpe took a
year off competitive swimming,
planning to compete In 2008.November 2006 - A serious injury caused
by a gym incident had led Thorpe
to announce his retirement.August 2007 - The “Ian Thorpe
aquatic and fitness centre” had
opened.February 2011 – Ian Thorpe came out
with an announcement during a
press conference that he aims to
compete in the 2012 London Olympic
Games.August 2012 – Ian Thorpe had failed
the London summer Olympics and
had still wanted to qualify in the
2013 world championships in
Barcelona, 2014 Commonwealth
games in Glasgow,Late 2012 - Announced his final retirement
due to his shoulder becoming in a worse
condition if he continued to swim.
