In 1839, Eduard Simon, a chemist in Germany, discovered the material known as styrol.
Herman Staudinger identified makeup of styrol to be a "chain-like molecule, and the name of styrol then became polystyrene.
The term "styrofoam" was trademarked by Dow Chemical.
Otis Ray McIntire invents foam polystyrene, the material from which "styrofoam" cups are actually made.
Price and Houston use McIntire's invention to file for a patent for a drinking vessel made from foam polystyrene.
