"Swan Lake Theme" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was composed in the year 1877. This song comes from the Romantic Era. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky composed this as the opening melody for his ballet "Swan Lake." The ballet tells the story of Odette, who is turned into a swan by the Evil Baron Von Rothbart. Tchaikovsky was heavily inspired by themes of Russian or German folktale. This includes the life story of Bavarian King Ludwig II who was called "The Swan King" for mysterioulsy drowning in a lake (Irvine, 2022).

Before making the ballet “Swan Lake,” Tchaikovsky simply wrote a short story on the Swan Lake legend for his nieces and nephews.
