In this update, emoji is finally standardized, meaning that companies can create their own versions of emoji. These emojis would still appear in a message even if the message is being sent to a different operating system. In addition, this version of Unicode released the largest inventory of emoji yet with ~990 unique emojis (Pardes, 2018).
