Descripción:
The Second Great Awakening was organized to reform groups that used revivalists tactics to spread their influence and membership.
During the Second Great Awakening there were more changes seen rather than the first Great Awakening such as women and slaves were able to preach.
During the Second Great Awakening people started to move west, so of course they would need someone to preach and guide them to the best way of religion.
The Second Great Awakening was a result of the Market Revolution, basically it was kind of a new revolution in Religion.
At this time Lyman Beecher was the most famous and significant figure, he had some camp meetings and was trying hard for the Second Great Awakening.
The Three main parts of the Second Great Awakening were Temperance, Abolition and women's rights.
- Temperance was to limit or ban alcohol, in which people were using alcohol a lot, during this time and it was against christian values.
- Abolition was to end slavery, which of course many people in the North were Anti slaves and supported this idea and wanted to give an end to slavery.
- women's rights: although there were many attempts for gaining women's rights especially voting rights, still women did not get their rights up until the mid 1900s.
The Second Great Awakening was started in 1790 and continued up until 1850 but its heat time was 1820-1840.
