John Quincy Adams crafted the Monroe Doctrine as a response to the Independence movement in Central and South America.
Prior to Monroe Doctrine, the American Revolution inspired many central and south American countries to begin a movement for independence.
Since The US was supportive of these types of movements, the US was supporting other American Countries to fight for their Independence.
President Monroe in Monroe Doctrine wanted to ensure that countries could fight for their independence and gain it. So, he created the Monroe Doctrine in which the main purpose was to ensure that there is no more colonization of Americas by Europeans.
Monroe Doctrine was not famous at the beginning but in the mid 19th century it gained popularity and neutrality would drive most of American Foreign policy and well into the 20th Century.
Some of the most important points of the Monroe Doctrine are:
- New world off limits to Europe
- Promised to not with interference with European politics and wars.
- Western Hemisphere meant for Republicans.
Causes:
- Getting rid of Colonization
- Independence movements throughout the Central and South American countries.
- American countries started not to deal with European affairs.
- The US encourages countries to fight for their independence.
Effects:
- In order for Doctrine to be enforced, The US is allied with Great Britain ( Strongest Country at that time ).
- Whenever people heard the Monroe Doctrine, the thought of the British empire.
- Supported the US for further expansion throughout the American continent.
- US becoming the most influential country in the Americas.
