Louisiana was a territory under control of France before 30 April, 1803.
During Napoleanic wars, France felt that there is no need for keeping this territory. France was focusing a lot on ongoing war on Europe, plus the French Revolution and the Napoleanic wars. At this time Napolean felt that there was no need for Louisiana and sold it to the US for $15 Million.
Causes:
The territory of the US was doubled.
Napolean lost interest from North America, since he was dealing war in Europe.
New states being added to US such as (Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas,North Dakota, South Dakota, and parts of Minnesota, New Mexico, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado )
Impacts:
France and Britain were still at war in Europe.
Strengthening the US and US had the most influence on North and South America.
Lewis and Clark were sent to explore.
Control of Mississippi river.
