After his death, his generals fought over the empire, finally deciding to break up the rule into four "manageable" parts. Ptolemy ruled Egypt, Lysimachus ruled Thrace and Asia Minor, Seleucus ruled Syria, Mesopotamia, and Persia, and Cassander ruled Macedonia and Greece.
