In 1937 Pollock was assigned to the Easel Division of the Federal Art Project of Works Progress Admin. The Federal Art Project of Works Progress Admin was a government funded program that was made to create jobs for unemployed artists during the Great Depression. The mass group of artists created more than 100, 000 paintings and murals. Pollock donated his mural titled the Cotton Pickers which was created in 1935 and Number 1 (Lavender Mist), one of Pollock's "drip" which was created in 1950.
