The Commissioner of Metropolitan Police stated on 3 August 1993 that the Home Office
and the Metropolitan Police would review removal procedures in deportation cases and the Joy Gardner case in particular would be investigated by the Assistant Chief Constable of
the Essex Police under the supervision of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) pursuant
to Section 88 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
