4 dic 1984 año - Start of the Money Advice Scheme
Descripción:
Citizens Advice Newcastle (CAN) workers previously provided "first-aid" treatment to clients with money problems. They negotiated with fuel providers to prevent disconnection, arranged payments with individual creditors and advised on rent and mortgage arrears. However, it became evident that some clients required advice on multiple debts. To prepare the workers for this, CAN organised a two-day course.
It is important to note that money advice is not limited to dealing with debts. A crucial part of CAN's work involves maximising a client's income by checking benefit entitlements, reviewing tax positions, and attempting to reduce housing costs. Clients are referred to CAN not only because they have multiple debts but also because their circumstances make it difficult to live on their current income.
