In June 1981, Citizens Advice Newcastle (CAN) was approached by the Area Director of Social Services in Cruddas Park with the proposal to establish a branch in the area. Despite several delays, CAN was informed by the Newcastle City Council in December 1982 that its funding application had been approved.

To launch the Cruddas Park branch, a sub-committee of CAN’s management committee was formed. This sub-committee was tasked with finding premises, ordering equipment, and appointing staff. Working with speed and efficiency, the sub-committee secured temporary rooms at the Cruddas Park Community Centre and installed the necessary equipment. On March 2nd, the sub-committee conducted interviews for the positions of Branch Organiser and Peripatetic Fieldworker.
