The Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine (PIJ) is a Palestinian Islamist paramilitary group formed in 1981. An offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood and influenced by the Iranian Revolution, PIJ seeks to establish an Islamic state in Palestine and opposes the Oslo Accords and the two-state solution. It calls for the military destruction of Israel and receives financial support from Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah. Its armed wing, Al-Quds Brigades, is active in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, known for suicide bombings and rocket attacks against Israeli civilians. The group has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States, EU, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Israel.
