Citizens Advice Newcastle played a significant role in the 1999 National Minimum Wage report produced by National Citizens Advice (North Region). As a result, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) offered Citizens Advice Newcastle a National Minimum Wage project to run once a week on Saturday mornings.

The Minimum Wage Project is designed to assist employees who are being paid less than the statutory rate. The sessions have been advertised on local radio, on various buses in the centre of Newcastle, and by the Inland Revenue Compliance Team.
