Since April 1997, the weekly advice session at the Chat Shop, previously run by the In-Work Benefit Unit, expanded to two weekly sessions on Tuesday and Friday mornings. This expansion is funded by the John Paul Getty Foundation.

The project is organised and managed through cooperation between Citizens Advice Newcastle (CAN) and the Arthurs Hill Steering Group, which meets every 4 to 6 weeks. The project's official launch was held in July during Arthurs Hill Festival, attracting significant interest and new enquiries.
