The major theme of the past year was the need to improve Citizens Advice Newcastle's service to handle the influx of debt-related cases. This year, Citizens Advice Newcastle received immense support to assist clients with financial difficulties. A large charitable trust promised funding for 3 years to employ specialist staff for debt advice. The city council, despite severe economic cuts to local government, managed to support this new initiative. Furthermore, the city council agreed to directly fund both Cruddas Park and Cowgate branches after the expiration of the Inner City Partnership funding. Citizens Advice Newcastle is very thankful for the significant support from the city council. All this support means that, after years of budget cuts and increased demand for its services, Citizens Advice Newcastle is secure in its foreseeable future to help people in the community.
