Citizens Advice Newcastle was invited by the Newcastle Welfare Rights Service to join a group of Lothian Councillors, their officials, and union members to observe how Citizens Advice Newcastle operates.

Three different councillors were responsible for funding one Citizens Advice unit in Scotland and were concerned about providing a "bottomless purse."

They were surprised to see the small space in which Citizens Advice Newcastle operates. The staff pointed out that Newcastle City Council provides generous funding for Citizens Advice Newcastle, although it is 'rate-capped'. During their visit, they observed how Citizens Advice Newcastle provides advice to the public.
