29 sept 1983 año - Housing Benefit Campaign
Descripción:
Citizens Advice Newcastle is part of a national network of Citizens Advice offices, collaborating with the National Association of Citizens Advice (NACAB). One significant issue they tackled was the new Housing Benefit Scheme. Using data from local Citizens Advice offices and other sources, NACAB issued a report criticising the scheme for being inequitable and unworkable. The report suggested improvements and called for further research.
This report was forwarded to the Secretary of State for Social Services, and Citizens Advice offices were encouraged to lobby local MPs and engage with local authorities to address the concerns. In January 1984, a NACAB committee met with Dr. Rhodes Boyson to discuss potential improvements. Although national outcomes remain uncertain, there is now improved coordination locally with housing departments to implement practical suggestions.
The report published by NACAB did not survive to this day, but the campaign is noted in the 1983/4 annual report and represents one of the earliest campaign efforts of Citizens Advice Newcastle.
