17 sept 2009 año - Unreasonable Demand Campaign
Descripción:
This year the Citizens Advice Service have been dealing with an increasing number of cases of people who, accused of shoplifting or employee theft, are then pursued for substantial sums of money as compensation for the ‘loss and damage caused by wrongful actions’. Citizens Advice published a report, 'Unreasonable Demands', which investigated this practice (known as ‘Civil Recovery’) and the companies involved.
As a result of the evidence brought by all local Citizens Advice local offices, the Ministry of Justice announced that it would introduce ‘tough new measures to improve the payment of employment tribunal awards’. In particular, the Ministry promised to contract a commercial firm of high court enforcement officers to conduct proactive enforcement on behalf of individual claimants.
Citizens Advice has a history of campaigning tirelessly to achieve justice for people who are unfairly treated. Citizens Advice was shortlisted for Voluntary Sector Campaign of the Year in the prestigious Public Affairs News Awards.
