In 610 Muhammad had revelations from God through the angel Gabriel. In these revelations he gets told that there only is one God and that he, Muhammad was the last and most important of God's prophets. The most important part of the revelations was that everyone that believes in him should follow his rules and live simple lives and help those that need it. He then named this belief the Islam.
