23 nov 2015 año - Citizens Advice Newcastle Nearly Closed
Descripción:
In late November 2015, Citizens Advice Newcastle (CAN) were told that 100% of their core funding would be cut by the city council's draft budget.
The Research and Campaigns Officer, with funding from the Millfield House Foundation, became very busy with the #WECAN campaign to get the city council to reconsider their decision.
Citizens Advice Newcastle received over 3,000 signatures through cahnge.org and the council decided to only reduce the core budget by 60%.
Although Citizens Advice Newcastle survived the budget cut, they had to do a lot of internal re-structuring to continue their service. Two members of staff started to volunteer instead, and two staff members moved on to other employment and their roles were not replaced. All other staff were re-structured into new roles. Some roles like the volunteer coordinator role were lost entirely.
Citizens Advice Newcastle also decided to move to a new office in the City Library. This was due to reduced costs and easier access for clients.
