26 feb 1971 año - Lynda Christine Kanes
HOMICIDE
Descripción:
On Saturday, February 26, 1971, Lynda Kanes, a 20-year-old white female, failed to show up for her new part-time job at the Meadowwood Country Club near St Helena, Napa County, CA.
On Friday, March 6, 1971, Lynda's body was discovered alongside Howell Mountain Rd in a shallow grave, covered with logs and debris, with a wire tightened around her neck. She was found in a ravine about 2 mi southwest of the campus at Angwin, approx. 250ft from where her car was located off Howell Mountain Rd.
Walter Williams, aka Willie the Woodcutter, a 57-year-old Black man, was arrested and convicted for her murder. Apparently, "Many people in the Napa Valley did not believe that Willie had done the crime and that he was set-up. Prominent people in the St. Helena area and beyond put up money to see that Willie had a good attorney."
Richard John Davis, murderer of Nancy Bennallack, resembles the suspect sketch in Kanes's case, and her case has been often mentioned as being similar to many of the others from around the same time frame.
I found out about this case because it has been brought up in conjunction with those of Nancy Bennallack and Judith Hakari multiple times in online Zodiac cases.
