In 2022, the cost of living crisis significantly increased the volume of enquiries handled by Citizens Advice Newcastle (CAN). With government interventions in early 2023, Citizens Advice Newcastle was included by the city council's approach as one of the agencies eligible to apply on behalf of clients for the £200 Household Support Fund one-off payments. This allowed Citizens Advice Newcastle to successfully process over 600 applications, providing substantial assistance to clients.
