Citizens Advice Newcastle has established a successful partnership with Walker and District Foodbank, supported by funding from the Trussell Trust. This collaboration includes a 2-year contract to provide an adviser at the foodbank. The drop-in session, run in conjunction with the Trussell Trust and the City of God Christian Centre, serves a high-need area in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The project aims to assist local, low-income households by reducing reliance on foodbanks through income maximisation and debt reduction. In addition to long-term goals, Citizens Advice Newcastle offers short-term aid such as food vouchers, SIM cards, and access to charitable support. The initiative has removed several barriers for Walker Foodbank clients, including travel costs and mobility issues. Over the first 10 months, the drop-in session has served 245 new clients, with a notable focus on assistance with disability benefits and work capability assessments.
