Citizens Advice Newcastle's Wise Steps Project, aimed at aiding the long-term unemployed in returning to work, concluded in 2022 due to a significant reduction in funding and the withdrawal of EU support. In early 2023, Citizens Advice Newcastle was informed that the project's funding would end, leading to the wind-down of casework by both caseworkers involved. Although the project sought new funding through the North of Tyne Combined Authority, the reduced funds meant that the Wise Steps Project could not continue in its previous form. Citizens Advice Newcastle successfully redeployed the skills of both employees to other projects within its organisation.
