31 mar 1987 año - Budget and Volunteer Problems

Descripción:

This year has been a period of hard work and consolidation of efforts for the staff of Citizens Advice Newcastle, both paid and unpaid. Once again, the workload had increased. Citizens Advice Newcastle had coped with this by recruiting more volunteers and by restricting opening hours; even so, staff were very stretched coping with demands. Attempts to secure extra funding for staff failed. As a result, many staff members moved on from Citizens Advice Newcastle due to the organisation's inability to offer competitive wages.

Funding is a continuing issue. The local authority is 'rate-capped.' Although they haven't cut the budget for Citizens Advice Newcastle, the current funding is not enough to cover the increasing demand for services. Therefore, Citizens Advice Newcastle has been actively fundraising. In December 1986, the flag day was held in the city centre, and Citizens Advice Newcastle was able to raise a modest sum to contribute to operations. Furthermore, a member of the Solicitor and Management Committee wrote to all the solicitors on the rota schemes to ask for donations. This raised a significant amount for Citizens Advice Newcastle and helped a lot in continuing services as usual.

Three areas of work continued to present problems: social security, money difficulties, and criminal injury cases.
