31 mar 1984 año - Economic Downturn

Descripción:

Due to the economic climate at the time, the Local Authority announced drastic cuts to the budget for voluntary organisations. Citizens Advice Newcastle (CAN) was able to negotiate a one-time donation to cover the extra spending incurred in 1984/5 before the budget cut, which allowed CAN to continue providing normal services. Going forward, more effort was made to gain alternative sources of income.

However, the recession hit the North East badly. CAN started to receive many more enquiries about employment, social security, consumer/business issues, and housing in 1983/4 compared to 1982/3.

There were many staff changes during this year. Some left due to retirement and others left for better job opportunities. CAN is thankful for the service that all its staff provided. Finding people for the newly vacant positions wasn't easy, and for some time, volunteers increased their workload to maintain the same standard of services.
