This scheme had been in existence for several years and was started at a time when very few solicitors' practices existed in the Walker, Byker, and Heaton areas. However, over the years, as demand grew, practices did become established, and a weekly rota of solicitors held in the offices at Philipson Street, Walker, became poorly attended. It became clear that Citizens Advice Newcastle's resources could be better used elsewhere.
