6 sept 1522 año - First Global Circumnavigation

Descripción:

On August 10th 1519 a Spanish explorer named Ferdinand Magellan left Spain on a mission to fully circumnavigate the globe.

He left with five ships and sailed across the Atlantic to South America. There the fleet headed further south charting the coastline of modern-day Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina for the first time. Eventually they discover a strait at the bottom of the continent that they use to enter the Pacific Ocean.

They sail across the water until arriving in Southeast Asia, becoming the first Europeans to visit the Philippine Archipelago. After Magellan is killed in a small battle with one of the native tribes, Juan Elcano becomes the captain and leads the remaining ships across the Indian Ocean, around Africa, and arrive back in Spain in September 1522 - fully circumnavigating the Earth for the first time in history.
