This marks the year that the first supernova was found and documented, by young astronomer Sophia Brahe. Being an avid astronomer, she often aided her older brother, Tycho, in his studies and observations, mainly focusing on eclipses and comets. Her own observations are what led her to find what she believed to be a new type of star, and, upon its discovery, she told Tycho about it, which led him to name it after her. Her discovery of the supernova, as it is known as today, was a significant finding in the field of astronomy, as it uncovered more of what exists in space.
