At Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, children were preparing for a youth celebration when a bomb went off, killing four girls and injuring dozens of others. This caused riots all over Birmingham. Robert Chambliss, a member of the Ku Klux Klan, was arrested for having dynamite in his possession, and it was later decided that he was guilty of murder.
