"[Constantinople] is located between the Adriatic sea and the sea which is now known as the Arm of St. George... Once the French princes had reached agreement with the Emperor, he ordered ships to be brought to the port so that the whole army could be ferried across without major delay. So Duke Godfrey and Tancred crossed first, reached Nicomedia and kicked their heels there for three days" (Roberts 101, 103).
