Fritz was the first black NFL head coach technically because he did co-head coach with another person back in 1921 with the Akron Pros, but that was also when black players weren’t allowed to. The second black NFL head coach, but one that I think deserves the honors of it was Art Shell with the Los Angeles Raiders in 1989. He was the one who truly wrote the path for other black men to have a chance of coaching in the NFL.
Lasting effect
These two men wrote the system of how you can be a black man and still make it in the world and do whatever you put your mind to. These guys allowed for the future generations to grow and hope to be a coach in the NFL no matter your race.
