The Palmer Raids were a series of controversial police actions in 1919 and 1920, orchestrated by U.S. Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, aimed at arresting and deporting radicals, anarchists, and communists suspected of plotting against the government. These raids were conducted without warrants and with little regard for legal due process, resulting in the detention of thousands of people, the violation of civil liberties, and the eventual deportation of several hundred immigrants.
