Carrie Nation was well known throughout the nation for her hatchet-wielding tendencies. She would attack saloons regularly in the name of temperance. This had mixed results. One on hand, it brought awareness to the problem and kept it in the news, on the other hand, she got thrown in jail 13 times and gave a bad name to other prohibition supporters.
