1 ene 1948 año - Balad al-Shaykh massacre

Descripción:

The Balad al-Shaykh massacre occurred in the early hours of December 31, 1947, to January 1, 1948, during the 1947–1948 civil war in Mandatory Palestine, shortly after the Haifa Oil Refinery massacre. Conducted by the Haganah's Palmach forces in the Palestinian Arab village of Balad al-Shaykh, the attack resulted in the deaths of between 21 and 70 Arabs, including at least two women and five children. The assault was a response to the earlier killing of 39 Jewish workers at the Haifa Oil Refinery by Arab laborers, which itself followed an attack by the Irgun. The Haganah's orders were to "kill maximum adult males," but the operation also inadvertently harmed women and children, leading to significant casualties among Palestinian civilians in the Haifa region and impacting morale. Two Haganah members were also killed during the attack. The incident is one of the earliest and largest massacres of the 1948 Palestine war.
