The Safed attacks occurred shortly after the Ottoman conquest of the Levant in 1517, involving clashes between retreating Mamluk soldiers and the new Ottoman authorities. Despite the devastation, the community received aid from Egyptian Jewry and managed to rebuild within a few years, surpassing its previous size.
